My journey to Marseille takes me through Gatwick Airport LGW 25/11/2006

The Motto of the City of Marseille: Actibus immensis urbs fulget Massiliensis. "By her great deeds, Marseille shines in the world".

I spent a couple of hours at Gatwick Airport at the start of my journey. The issues I had with hand-luggage I have detailed in beginnings - have a look if you are wondering about hand-luggage allowed on board the plane.

After I had gone through security, very thorough, with everything being x-rayed AND I had to remove my shoes, I spent my time in an open area T-Mobile lounge. There were very comfortable seats and also electric sockets that I could plug my laptop into and carry on with my writing. Unfortunately I did not find any FREE WI_FI Internet access at the airport, it was all being provided by the paid subscription providers. Still, I had lots to do, including this journal, that did not require Internet access so it was good just to have the electric socket.

Something you might want to plan for, is to take water and maybe, an energy bar or snack in with you as you will find everything at the airport much more expensive to buy than outside. I had water that a friend gave me and it saved me spending money that I wanted to spend on Bouillabaise in Marseille! :-)

London Gatwick Airport (LGW) is a very, very busy airport. It is the United Kingdom's second busiest airport after London Heathrow (LHR) and more than thirty million passengers a year fly in or out of Gatwick, and the number continues to grow.
