My two nights at a fourth hotel in Marseille 28/11/2006 - 29/11/06

The Motto of the City of Marseille: Actibus immensis urbs fulget Massiliensis. "By her great deeds, Marseille shines in the world".

Across the road from my third hotel in Marseille (un-named) was another hotel on the Allees Leon Gambetta. This had a price list in the doorway that advertised rooms complete with TV and satellite for 20 Euros (approx. 13 UK Pounds or 27 US Dollars). It looked OK from outside :-) so I thought I would give it a try and you never know I might pick up a wireless Internet signal.

Well, it was OK. It had an old world french charm, it was clean and quiet. I didn't get Internet access - I was satisfying this by visiting cafes during the day but it was good enough as a clean inexpensive hotel to keep me there two days.

I used the hotel as a base to continue exploring Marseille - for the past few days I had been walking everywhere and had seen lots of the central part of the city on foot. So much to see! Marseille is brimming with life. I enjoyed stumbling on street markets almost around every corner, and the smells of different kinds of food during the day was fantastic. Marseille is a hugely multi-cultural city and this gives it a vibrancy and cosmopolitan vigour hard to match any where else.

During this time I found the Tourist Information Office for Marseille down near the Vieux Port. If you walk it is at the bottom of the La Canebière, the main thoroughfare, or if you get the tube, the Metro it is right next t the Vieux Port exit of the Metro.

From the Tourist Information Office for Marseille I got a list of French Bed and Breakfast establishments. These were people offering accomodation with breakfast in their homes, Chambre D'Hote. The list and descriptions were in French but prices were in Euros - which I could understand.

And there, in the Chambre D'Hote list, I saw Madam Botella's listing, so I thought I would try again.
